Bedford County Tree Spreads Its Roots - Stacy B
How many people does it take to plant a tree? It took a team for sure! It all started as an idea to celebrate Earth Day, so we drove to Countryside Gardens and picked the bigest tree, drove it very carefully back to the dealership, and then picked the hardest spot of earth ... and then we began digging, and digging, and digging. We love that this beautiful Redbud was grown in Bedford County and will now spread its roots with us.

Titan's Second Chance - Carol E
The Bedford County Humane Society here in Bedford, Pennsylvania has had our fair share of incidents where the Pennsylvania State Police has brought us animals. The routine paper work is always filled out, and they are off again to further serve our community. On October 3, 2022 it was a little different... We received a phone call that we were about to get not one, not two, not three, but four neglected dogs. When these dogs arrived at our facility it was very obvious why these dogs were pulled from the residence. To say skin and bones would be an understatement...their skin was crawling in fleas and what should be their shiny fur coat was a layer after layer of dirt and grime. Each dog that came in needed a lot of TLC. Starting with baths, flea treatments and preventives, and small amounts of food. Our police officers never batted an eye and they jumped right in right with us shelter workers and we all got to work with every single one of us in tears. The first dog to get his second chance at life was Titan. Titan among his three siblings lived outside in small dog boxes...nothing in these boxes for warmth, the little water they had was black, and there was no food to be found. Titan walked into our doors and was given his bath by shelter staff and State Troopers. The bath water was muddy tinged with blood from the flea infestation and this skinny hound dog did nothing but wag his tail and give us all kisses. Everything this little guy went through didn't seem to phase him one bit...he had so much love to give. He knew he was safe, he knew he was loved, and for the first time he knew he was going to get the compassion and care that he needed. With each day he got stronger and stronger, and it wasn't long before a beautiful family came in and embraced his loving hound dog personality. Titan is now living his absolute best life with a clean bill of health. He has fields to run and play in, he has a best friend named Nikolai and they are inseparable. Titan has had a warm place to sleep every night, and is adjusting to the home wonderfully. We are all so thankful that these dogs are safe now, and we are especially thankful for the second chance at life Titan has now. Thanks, Thomas Subau!
